LeRoy Moore

Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center
LeRoy Moore, PhD, is a writer and former academic, who since 1979 has focused on public health and environmental issues related to the now defunct Rocky Flats nuclear bomb factory near Denver. A founder of the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, he worked successfully with others to end production at Rocky Flats, then sought the best possible cleanup of a highly contaminated site, only to be disappointed when government agencies approved a cheaper, less responsible outcome. He is the author of the Citizen’s Guide to Rocky Flats and numerous articles and papers on all aspects of Rocky Flats. For a decade he was on various oversight bodies related to Rocky Flats. He was on the board of the Rocky Flats Cold War Museum from 2002 until 2013. From 2000 until 2004 he served on two committees of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, which studies radiation health effects and recommends exposure standards to the U.S. government and industry. In 2010 he founded the Rocky Flats Nuclear Guardianship, which alerts the public to the danger of nuclear materials. From 1980 until he retired in 1996, he taught courses on nonviolent social change at the University of Colorado.
